Most fire pits sold online come in 14-gauge or thinner. We finish it in high-temperature black powder coat, a coating built to take a real fire instead of peeling off the way ordinary paint does.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe usual fire pit is painted mild steel. The paint burns off around the fire box in the first season, rust starts at those bare edges, and a couple of winters later the sides are pitted.
